Opening Friday, 24th February 2012, 6 – 8 pm

Following last year’s group exhibition Stories being told, this spring BolteLang presents another three contemporary painting positions: Jonathan Binet (*1984, lives in Paris), Lydia Gifford (*1979, lives in London) and David Ostrowski (*1981, lives in Cologne). In contrast to the Stories being told artists, whose works focus on narratives and figurative stories, these three artists create paintings with a diversity of materials and nuances of colour, that often are located somewhere between image and object and hence frequently spread from the canvas out into the space. Shades of white create a subtle colourfulness, which is extended through the sparse use of blue, red and black. At the same time the physical presence of the works is further emphasised. All three artists have an interest in the investigation of the language of painting in common, but in very different ways.

Jonathan Binet completed his art degree at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2010. 2006 he did an exchange year at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Karlsruhe. In the recent past he participated in following exhibitions (selection): Les mains dans les poches, pleines, Gaudel de Stampa, Paris, 2011 (solo), That which doesn’t kill us is often made of foam, Chert, Berlin, 2011, LIVRET II, curated by Irmavep Club, Galerie Art : Concept, Paris, 2011. In 2008 he won the Lauréat du prix des amis des Beaux-Arts, Prix Gérard Viquel.

After her bachelor degree at Chelsea School of Art and Design Lydia Gifford received her masters from the Royal College of Art in London in 2008. Currently her works are on view in a solo show at the David Roberts Foundation in London.
